Psychotherapist

Sophia is a psychotherapist and Mental Health Counselor Limited Permit (MHC-LP) practicing in Manhattan, New York City, and offering online therapy across New York State. She earned her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Boston University and has experience providing outpatient community mental health care to clients from diverse backgrounds working through depression, anxiety, complex trauma, and more. As a therapist for teens and young adults in Manhattan, she also supports clients with couples therapy, relationship counseling, life transitions, career stress, self-esteem, and identity exploration.

My Approach

Sophia believes in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship, and she brings warmth, humor, non-judgment, and thoughtful curiosity to her work with clients. Her approach to therapy is person-centered, trauma-informed, and collaborative, recognizing that clients know their own story best. Depending on each client's needs, she draws on techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress, tailoring each session to what matters most to the client, whether they meet in person in Manhattan or in an online therapy session.

What To Expect

The world can be loud, and so can the voices of others or the critic inside our own heads. In sessions with Sophia, in person or online, clients have a space to come up for air, feel deeply heard, and feel safe bringing every part of themselves, whether they're navigating anxiety, trauma, a difficult life transition, or a sense of stuckness or numbness. Grounded in a belief in each client's inherent strengths and capacity for growth, Sophia works with clients to build greater self-compassion and self-understanding, helps them break free of unhelpful patterns, and supports them in nurturing stronger connections with the people around them.
