Meet The Team

Amir Levine, PhD, LCSW-R (he/him/his)

Co-Founder & Clinical Director

Amir Levine Psychotherapist New York

Hello, my name is Amir and I’m glad you’re here! My goal in co-creating Bhava was to build a nurturing environment and a healing home for both therapists and clients alike. Guiding the professional growth of our team of amazing therapists and the healing process for our clients we have the privilege to serve is one of my greatest joys in life.

For me, working in the field of mental health is a calling, and while incredibly rewarding, it is a role that is not without its challenges. Additionally, it is a role with unlimited learning and growth potential. Despite having decades of experience in organizational leadership and management, direct clinical work and clinical supervision, program creation, multiple presentations at national conferences, and in my day to day role as Co-Founder and Clinical Director, I never stop learning, growing and evolving. It is this passion for this field and the growth inherent in it, that I hope to pass on to all I have the privilege to work with.

Well-versed in many psychotherapeutic theories and models of care, I have learned most from the courageous clients that I have had the honor to work with throughout my 25+ years of practice. My approach to care is eclectic, holistic and collaborative. I believe that therapists and the clients alike flourish only when they are genuinely supported and cared for. It is most gratifying for me to be able to support our team of therapists in honing their innate strengths and in cultivating their unique therapeutic style and voice. Over the years, I have witnessed many individuals overcome tremendous pain and challenges with dedication, commitment, awareness and compassionate support.

The goal of therapy is to provide the conditions for clients to connect to their innate wisdom and inner resources and are empowered to have an active role in their treatment process. I greatly value equality, diversity and inclusion and fully enjoy working with a range of diverse clients from various backgrounds and the LGBTQ+ community.

I completed my PhD at Yeshiva University, I am certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and currently completing a training program in Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy.

Ariel Davis, MPH (she/her), New Client Coordinator

Hi! I’m Ariel. I’ve been working in the healthcare field for 10 years. I have a Bachelors in Psychology from SUNY Oneonta where I also minored in Women’s and Gender Studies. I’ve worked with many populations in harm reduction, crisis intervention, and supportive housing. Most of my work has been with folks from marginalized communities who struggle with various mood and personality disorders.

I’ve been with Bhava Therapy Group for over 3 years. It’s super important to me to help others find their way to gaining the support they need. I come from a very empathetic and nonjudgmental place. I utilize my selfless attitude and commitment to supporting others when I connect new clients to their providers.

I received my Masters in Public Health in May 2022 from New York Medical College. I’ve since been also working in sexuality education and HIV prevention. When I’m not helping out my Bhava team, I spend the rest of my time working with the Research Foundation of CUNY where I’m helping update a socialization and sex education curriculum for youth with mild to moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities.

When it comes to your mental health, I know it can be difficult to take that first step to finding support. When you feel ready to take that first step and contact us, just know I’m here to help and I’m more than happy to do that! You don’t have to start your wellness journey alone.

I integrate various theoretical approaches such as CBT, experiential, and somatic therapy. Out of deep respect for each client’s multicultural identity and unique experiences, I collaboratively tailor treatment to each client’s specific needs.

Integrating my extensive education and background in theater, I bring creativity, authenticity, and humility to the therapeutic experience to foster  healing. Above all else, I prioritize the therapeutic relationship by inviting you to come to therapy as you are. I would be honored to connect with you as you reconnect with yourself.

Emily Shapiro LMFT, MSEd (she/her/hers) Clinical Supervisor

Emily Shapiro MS, LMFTI am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I hold a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University as well as a Masters in Education from Bank Street College of Education and an ABT degree in English Literature from the Hebrew University. I work with couples and families, and with individuals of all ages. I have a special interest in ADHD as it impacts individuals and relationships.

My approach to therapy is deeply relational, strengths based, and client-centered. I approach therapy as a collaboration: I bring my specialized understanding of human development and relationships, while you bring your knowledge of yourself, your history, your environment and your relationships. Together we create an understanding of your situation, and of your wishes and goals, and help you see your way forward while removing obstacles along the way.

Katherine Berko, LMSW, She/Her/Hers

Hello, I’m Katherine, and I received my MSW from NYU and studied Psychology at Duke. I’ve received postgraduate psychoanalytic training at New York Counseling and Guidance Service (NYCGS), along with couples training in the Tavistock method, Emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and art therapy. I work with adults and couples. My patients are diverse regarding race, culture, and sexual orientation.

As your therapist I’ll help you access your inner world so you live with more awareness, intention, meaning, and wonder. I’ll listen a lot for what’s unsaid. I’ll help you uncover within yourself the truest, most authentic questions and answers. In session you’ll bring whatever’s on your mind and we’ll attend to it. Nothing is too insignificant. This is deep, long-term work about deep, long-term change.

Patients find it helpful to explore their childhoods, “random” memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes, you-name-it. All is welcome. Our aim is to bring some of the unconscious into consciousness so you’re aware of how and why you’ve been getting in your own way. With couples I’ll help you listen better and break deeply entrenched patterns, sometimes employing art therapy. Everyone yearns to be seen and heard by their partner, and I’ll guide you there.

My identity as a writer inspires me to help each of my patients take hold of their narrative, understanding where they’ve come from and where they’d like to go. To live, as the poet Mary Oliver wrote, your “one wild and precious life.”

Bailey Lynn Brown LMSW (she/her/hers)

Hello! I am Bailey Brown, a Licensed Master of Social Work from the Finger Lakes, practicing virtually with my clients in the NYC area. My passion is helping adults, couples, adolescents, and families to improve their emotional awareness in an effort to increase their mind-body connection, heal relationships, create an improved sense of self,  and create a healthy relationship with their feelings. I believe therapy can open opportunities to your mind and body so you can reach your highest potential. Having worked in a variety of different mental health environments such as community mental clinics, hospital based outpatient, addiction, as well as school environments I instinctually create a comfortable, safe, warm, and non judgemental space where you can develop insight and skills needed to overcome whatever challenges you face so you can accomplish your goals, find balance, and fulfillment.

I use an eclectic collection of different evidence based therapy methods to help clients access their potential starting with a patient-centered/strengths based approach, infused with somatic sensing, methods of trauma informed care, positive psychology, family systems, mindfulness training, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic approaches. Working collaboratively with you is essential to the way I practice psychotherapy.

To be the best versions of ourselves we have to examine who we are, where we have been, and our relationships with others and our environments. I believe this journey can feel fulfilling, exciting, scary, frustrating, and everything in between. I believe normalizing all of these feelings as steps in the journey is what allows us to grow and heal.

Maria del Rosario, LMHC (she/her/hers)

Hello! I’m Maria, a NY state licensed mental health counselor. I received my undergraduate degree at Rutgers University for psychology, and I received master’s degree in mental health counseling at Pace University. I’ve worked in early childhood development at the Goddard School and the Learning Experience, as well as early intervention through my work as a youth advocate at Friends of the Children NY where I worked in the school and community setting. My current clinical work is focused on adolescents and adults with various needs such as navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, and complex trauma.

I bring a comforting presence to each client in hopes of a deep clarity to unfold in sessions. Establishing a trusting and open therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance. Coming from a strengths-based, client-centered perspective, I work collaboratively with clients to identify any barriers that may be hindering progress toward growth and work wholeheartedly to help clients reach their goals in life.

In each session, I attune to what clients’ may not be saying in sessions and provide a space for safe self expression. I bring to therapy my own lived experiences and transparency in order to connect and see each client as their own unique being.

Lauren Eley, MSW, (she/her/hers)

Hello! My name is Lauren Eley, and I hold a Masters of Social Work from the New York University Silver School of Social Work. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Skidmore College, where I studied Education,  Creative Writing, and Dance. I have extensive experience working with youth in school settings, where I supported children struggling with anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, and additional psychological needs. I have also supported and empowered neurodivergent children at a separate agency. I currently work with children, young adults, and their families.

In my practice, I believe in meeting clients exactly where they are, and then tailoring my approach to best suit their individual needs. I am a strong believer in the Strengths-based, Solutions-focused, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy modalities. Furthermore, my therapeutic approach is highly collaborative, meaning I believe in heavy parent involvement and frequently facilitate group sessions. I prioritize client self-actualization by working with them to develop the tools they need to advocate for themselves and meet their full potential.

As a highly compassionate individual, I provide empathetic, high quality care to each one of my clients. My background and passion for the arts has lead me to approach my work through a creative lens, which manifests in various ways, including an emphasis on play therapy and art therapy.

Shauna Folts, LMSW (she/her/hers)

Hi, I’m Shauna and I’m a Licensed Masters Social Worker and trained Psychoanalytic therapist based in Manhattan.

My approach to therapy is flexible and integrates a psychodynamic framework, bringing an awareness of how the past informs the present. I implement mind-body connection awareness, as well as cognitive and behavior modalities to create a holistic experience and approach to the creative expression of the human condition.

I celebrate the therapeutic space, where I believe authentic expression can be shared, seen, and held in order to find truth. When working with diverse populations, I maintain a curiosity, a search and endeavor for meaning and understanding of the client’s experience. I value the client-therapist relationship and invite the energetic collaboration of finding the treasure within. I prioritize creating a self-exploratory environment where the client can discover who they fundamentally desire to be – through love, self-compassion, confidence, self-esteem, and authenticity.

Nancy Gershman, LMSW, (she/her/hers)

Hi, I’m Nancy Gershman, a New York State-licensed social worker, with a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College, and training from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy’s Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia.  My practice focuses on adults (grief, loss and trauma issues that can present as anxiety, depression, dissociation and disordered eating/eating disorders) and couples (many struggling with feelings of disconnection and boundary disruptions).

My approach towards psychotherapy? I believe integrating psychodynamic and somatic approaches with the expressive arts ensures the best modality for the moment. I invite my clients to see it as collaborative detective work, with an ear attuned to the stories we tell ourselves, the burden of labels, and the communication styles that could be maintaining unhappiness. I pay special attention to a client’s openness to deep play, their sense of humor and religiosity/spirituality. In the end (and yes, there is always an end in sight!), the best healing comes from feeling safe enough with me to share your rules and emotional truth so that you can come to truly know and love yourself.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I was a creative in advertising. Today, I find the multiple perspective-taking, metaphorical language, and distillation of complex information into simple and direct language perfect for helping my clients absorb new learnings and generate insight.

Hi! I’m Val. I prioritize a client-therapist relationship based on trust, curiosity, and open communication. I have experience with individuals and couples struggling with various mental health and relational issues including but not limited to trauma, depression, anxiety, gender/sexuality identity, and substance abuse. I’m nonbinary, trans masc, and queer and have a particular interest in working with the LGBTQIA+ community.

As a clinician, I’m interested in collaborative, accessible treatment. We will openly discuss the therapeutic tools I draw from in session so that you can establish your own healing toolbox. Therapy is a living, breathing thing and I like to treat it as such; feedback about sessions is welcome and appreciated. My practice is trauma informed and structured around an anti-oppressive, holistic framework. I integrate mindfulness and somatic techniques alongside more traditional psychodynamic and behavioral treatment models.

I received my MSW from Columbia School of Social Work and have trained with IPSS and ICP. I have experience in outpatient mental health treatment, supportive housing, and healthcare accessibility advocacy. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Eric Nuri Han, MHP-LP (he/him/his)

Hello, my name is Eric Nuri Han and I am a mental health counselor with a MA and EdM in mental health counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BA in psychology from UConn. I have worked in an outpatient treatment center for substance abuse and addiction and have experience with individual and group therapy settings while there. I currently work with a wide range of clients both in age and in diversity and am always open to working with new populations.

I have an eclectic approach to therapy, meaning that I use different therapy modalities as well employing different evidence-based treatments to optimize the session for the client. I believe that each client is unique and requires an individualized treatment that caters to their specific needs. I believe that unconditional positive regard and believing in my clients are essential and think of therapy as a collaboration of growth.

I was born in the US but have moved back and forth between the US and South Korea, making me what is known as a Third Culture Kid (TCK) with intimate knowledge of both cultures while still never fully belonging to solely one culture. It alerted me the importance of perspective as I was able to experience living both as a minority and as part of the majority. As such, I realize the importance of culture and being culturally sensitive and therefore place a strong emphasis on being culturally competent while advocating for the destigmatization of mental health awareness globally.

Doriel Jacov, JD, LMSW (he/him/his)

Doriel Jacov

I am a licensed social worker with an MSW from Hunter College, a JD from Columbia University, and a BBA from George Washington University. I work with individuals of all ages with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life and career transitions, work-related stress, trauma/history of abuse, grief, shame, and questions around gender and sexuality. I enjoy working with those who are curious about the ways in which they may not understand themselves and who view the change process as a journey. I also work with couples navigating issues around communication, intimacy, infidelity, and significant life events.

I believe that putting words to experience within a collaborative therapeutic partnership can be immensely healing. I offer a warm, curious, and non- judgmental environment where we can safely explore anything you may be going through. My approach is psychodynamic, relational, attachment-based, and trauma-informed, and I incorporate behavioral, somatic, dreamwork, and other modalities based on needs and preferences. Over time, we will attempt to uncover the ways in which your past and present are linked, and how conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, and conflicts may be shaping your experience. We will also explore the ways that culture and systems relate to your Experience.

Whether it’s your first time in therapy or you’ve been before, it takes courage to begin this process. Like many of my clients, I also have personal experience working in highly demanding professional environments. I welcome individuals, couples, and families of all backgrounds and identities, and I look forward to working together.

Elizabeth Joseph, LMHC, NCC (she/her/hers)

Elizabeth Joseph

Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth and I am a licensed mental health counselor and a nationally certified counselor. I received my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine, and my bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in clinical psychology from Boston College. I mainly work with clients over the age of 18 who are interested in working through anxiety, depression, disordered eating, trauma, relationship difficulties, identity formation, and life transitions. I have prior experience working with individuals in partial hospitalization programs struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders, trauma, substance use disorders, and psychosis, among others.

I emphasize a strengths-based, collaborative approach with my clients and draw from different evidence-based modalities, including CBT, DBT, and ACT. I also utilize a psychodynamic approach to explore how past experiences are impacting current ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. I love to tailor my approach to what each of my clients are wanting and needing at the time.

I aim to provide my clients with a warm, trusting, culturally-sensitive environment in order to encourage them to grow and heal. I focus on using empathy and authenticity to create strong relationships with my clients. When working with me, you can expect to be heard, challenged, and (hopefully) filled with some laughter.

Rachel Kimelman, LCSW (she/her/hers)

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an LGBTQ affirming therapist with over a decade of experience in the field of mental health. I received a Master’s Degree from The Columbia University School of Social Work and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook. I previously worked in a community mental health clinic serving people of all ages and with seniors in supportive housing.

I have a background working with people who face a range of challenges such as adjusting to life transitions, anxiety disorders, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders, and trauma.  I utilize a multi-modal therapeutic approach to meet clients’ individualized needs. These approaches include aspects of Psychodynamic Therapy, Strengths-Based Perspective, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Client Centered Therapy.

I believe that trust is the core foundation for building a therapeutic relationship. To better understand the needs of my clients and build a foundation of trust, I use intuition, empathy and active listening. Therapy is a journey and healing can take shape in many different ways. I aspire to help people grow and attain greater insight and self-awareness so that they can actualize their potential.

Pamela LePore, LMSW (she/her/hers)

Pamela LePore

Hello! I’m Pam Lepore, a Licensed Master of Social Work from NYC. I offer psychotherapy to a diverse clientele of all ages and work with couples, groups and families, as well. I have worked with several community mental health clinics as well as in substance misuse treatment programs, in youth counseling, and conducted creative arts workshops for supportive housing residents. In my earlier career I worked as a newspaper writer and reporter.

I believe that therapy is one of those rare things in modern life that invites us to slow
down, allowing our inner selves to unwind and emerge towards a happier life. My work is based mostly within the therapeutic modalities of psychodynamic and person-
centered traditions. I infuse this with interdisciplinary methods including work with story, images, myths and fairytales as well as somatic approaches and methods of trauma informed care.

For me the journey of self exploration towards empowerment is satisfying, frustrating,
exciting and everything in between. There are many fine points to how healing happens but is said to happen only in relation to another and this is what I thrive on as a therapist.

Sophie Majteles, LMSW (she/her/hers)

Hi, I’m Sophie! I’m a New York State licensed social worker. I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University, my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from New York University, and have trained in family and couples therapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. I have experience working with individuals and couples navigating relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief/loss/cancer, and other significant life transitions.

My approach to therapy is eclectic, meaning I draw from somatic, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral modalities as needed (including ACT, IFS, AEDP, Gottman Method, attachment theory, EFT). Most importantly, I believe that meaningful connection with others profoundly impacts our lives, and therefore aim to cultivate safe and affirming relationships with my clients.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in government and political organizing, which helps me apply a social justice lens to my practice and understand ways that social, political, and economic factors shape individual and collective well-being.

Anginese Phillips, LCAT, R-DMT (she/her/hers)

I am a licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist from NYC. I have been practicing for over 10 years, mainly working with adults in various settings, from in-patient psychiatry to nursing & rehabilitation facilities.

I believe that verbal therapeutic processing is only half the story. My work is based mostly within the psychotherapeutic use of movement alongside other creative arts modalities, including music, theater, and art. There is so much knowledge that creativity and the imagination can provide in a therapeutic setting, especially with adults who tend to lose these parts of themselves.

As a therapist, I enjoy supporting my clients in understanding how their creativity and imagination can not only help in achieving their goals but have a much healthier quality of life.

Sneha Rawlani, MHC-LP (she/her/hers)

I’m Sneha (pronounced as snayha), a mental health counselor with a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from New York University. I have experience working in school, college, and clinical settings, and I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I am most well-versed in the areas of anxiety, depression, body image and disordered eating, relationships and family dynamics, self-esteem, neurodivergence (ADHD & autism), gender and sexuality (LGBTQIA+ affirming), non-monogamy/polyamory, and racial/cultural identity.

I have a gentle and grounding presence, and I am affirming and empowering in my approach. I offer practical knowledge and tools, as well as a space that can hold difficult and painful emotions. I focus on understanding how people’s life experiences, traumas, and social conditions have impacted them, rather than focusing solely on symptoms and diagnoses. I utilize a blend of person-centered, narrative, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral therapies, conceptualized through a social justice lens.

Having lived most of my life in India, I am intentional about recognizing how our social, cultural, and political contexts shape us. Coming from this collectivist culture, I also understand how significant our relationships and communities are to our wellbeing. Our relationships with ourselves are equally important, and therapy is a means of nurturing this lifelong relationship. I believe that having a warm and caring client-therapist relationship is an essential part of this process, and I bring my authentic, hopeful, passionate, creative, philosophical-intellectual self to this relationship.

I have provided services to people that struggle with their sense of identity, finding stability through transitions, PTSD, managing interpersonal issues, grief, anxiety, depression, and more. Lead with empathy and compassion, I utilize a trauma and culturally informed eclectic approach that often taps into CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, play therapy, somatic healing, psychodynamic and other modalities as needed. Additionally, I have led groups for children and adolescents in mental health clinics in The Bronx, NY and Brooklyn, NY focused on emotional literacy, healthy relationship skills building, behavioral modification, and social skills development.

I believe that therapy is an experience that requires a lot of bravery, self-reflection, connection and action. Oftentimes, this experience can be very challenging as it requires us to confront parts of ourselves, our community and our world, all of which can be very challenging to do alone. Working with me means receiving empathy, validation and having a safe judgment free space to be and/or learn about yourself as you continue to explore and grow on your path to wellness.

Jesse Quiles, LMSW (he/him/his)

Hi! I’m Jesse Quiles, a Licensed Master of Social Work from New York. I received my

BSW from Lehman College in the Bronx and obtained my MSW from New York University. I work with clients of all ages and backgrounds struggling with a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, and trauma.

In dealing with issues like anxiety and depression, I believe the first step is always to slow down and to notice what is going on. Depression and anxiety can make this process very difficult but by offering a safe, non-judgmental, and open space my clients can safely and comfortably unpack their thoughts and feelings regarding themselves, their relationships, background, and family life.

I believe therapy does not need to be an uncomfortable process. It is not a place to feel judged or as if you are on trial. I like to remind my clients to be themselves and to embrace who they are in our sessions so that they can get the most out of our work together. I believe comfort and trust are the two biggest components of therapy and I always strive to maintain that in every Session.

What sets me apart as a therapist is my prior experience thriving in high pressure corporate environments. This experience gives me a unique perspective as I work with clients towards establishing healthier patterns and a stronger sense of self. Kimberly Wallach, LMSW, (she/her/hers)

Kim Wallach

Kim Wallach

My name is Kim Wallach, and I am a NYS licensed social worker. I received my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University, and my clinical experience includes working with children, families, and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, and addiction.  My approach to therapy incorporates modalities such as CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, somatic resourcing, internal family systems and psychodynamics.

I recognize that many of us experience times in our life when difficulties arise in our close relationships or with life transitions, stirring feelings of anxiety, sadness, and fear. It can feel isolating and daunting to carry this burden alone, and hard to imagine that things will ever change.  I understand that it takes courage to make positive changes in your life, and believe that together we can explore the difficult emotions and symptoms you are experiencing, gain clarity, and build awareness of old patterns and thought processes that are limiting your growth. I bring authenticity, kindness, and compassionate curiosity into each session, and understand and respect that each person is an individual.

I am passionate about providing an empathic, non-judgemental, and supportive space where you feel understood and seen for the person you truly are. Together, we will work to find the best treatment option for your specific needs, and move towards a place which provides a sense of peace from the difficult emotions you are experiencing. I look forward to walking beside you on your journey to self-discovery.

Elizabeth Warren, LMSW

Welcome! I’m Elizabeth Warren, a Licensed Master Social Worker, with a Masters degree from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Baruch College. My interest in people led me to learning about and exploring a variety of populations. In the past I have provided therapeutic services to POC, the LGBTQ+ community, survivors of abuse, those diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities, various personality disorders, SUD, PTSD, eating disorders, families, groups, and more.

Through working with such diverse groups, I had the chance to learn and utilize a number of modalities such as CBT, MI, DBT, ABA, SFBT, among other approaches. My experience with each of these modalities enables me to pull from a number of therapeutic styles and craft an experience that meets each of  my client’s individual needs.

As a psychotherapist it is my goal to create a safe space where each person I work with may receive services that both meet them where they are in the present day and alter with them as they continue to grow. Please reach out if you are looking for a warm and collaborative self development journey!
